Cash for Critters (Recycling for our Shelties)
Many of the shelties that SRCI
accepts into its foster program are older or "special needs" dogs that can be
more difficult to place. We believe that all shelties, regardless of age or
condition, deserve a loving home, but sometimes their prolonged stay in a foster
home may prevent another sheltie from being rescued.
Therefore, we hope that you will consider becoming a long-term foster home for
one of these special little ones. SRCI continues to be responsible for the cost
of medical care, and as with an adoption, you may select one that fits your
family and personality. If, at any point, you can no long care for the sheltie,
then he will come back to SRCI.
Older and special-needs shelties provide loving companionship, and they
appreciate someone to enrich their years with regular meals, routine brushings,
gentle pats on the head and lots of hugs!
If you can provide a long-term foster home for one of these special ones, please
contact the Foster Home Coordinator at
foster@sheltie-rescue.org.

Sheltie Rescue of Central Indiana, Inc. has been very successful
with placing our shelties in new and loving homes. Each sheltie spends at least
two weeks in foster care while the medical care is completed and we learn about
her personality and likes. Some shelties spend more time and sometimes even
several months while we train or modify their behavior before they are ready to
be adopted. Often times SRCI receives shelties faster than we can place them.
Each foster home has limited space for foster shelties, so SRCI is always
looking to increase the ranks of our foster caregivers. What does it take to be
a foster parent for a sheltie? On the surface, it's really very simple. Foster
homes provide appropriate food, care, training and medication for the sheltie.
SRCI covers all medical costs involved but we ask the caregiver to donate the
food. Becoming a foster parent does require a time commitment on your part, but
if you love shelties then it's an easy task. Here are some of your
considerations before deciding to join our ranks of foster caregivers:
-
Are you familiar with the characteristics and behavior of the Shetland
Sheepdog as a breed?
-
Are you willing to spend time studying and evaluating the dog and make a
recommendation about a suitable home?
-
Are you willing to talk with potential owners and provide information
about the foster sheltie?
-
Are you willing to administer appropriate medication?
-
Do you have the appropriate physical facilities such as a fenced yard and
an area to separate new dogs from yours?
-
Foster caregivers are required to be a member of SRCI. Are you willing to
join as a member and be recommended as a responsible pet owner by at least two
Sheltie Rescue members?
-
Are you willing to sign the appropriate liability release form?
-
If you think you might want to foster shelties for SRCI, we look forward
to hearing from you! Contact us at

as much time as you are able to provide.

I wish I could do more to
help sheltie rescue, but I am so limited...on time, energy, facilities, or
ideas."
In answer to this comment, Sheltie Rescue of Central Indiana now presents one
more opportunity for those who truly want to help our rescued shelties.
The Sponsor-a-Sheltie program enables a person to partially or completely
underwrite the expenses of one of our rescues. Total costs vary, depending upon
the dog's condition, but any contribution is helpful.
The sponsor will receive a picture of the Sheltie along with a complete history,
financial statement and placement information on the dog.

Cash for Critters
(Recycling for our Shelties)
Cash for Critters is a fundraising program to help raise funds
for our rescued and recycled Shelties. With this program, SRCI collects empty
ink jet cartridges, laser printer cartridges and digital cell phones and
recycles them for cash. Most types of laser and inkjet cartridges are
accepted (except throwaways which are not able to be recycled). If you would
like to help, please bring your cartridges and cell phones to any of our
events which are posted here on our website. Contact Amanda at recycle@sheltie-rescue.org
with any questions. Thank you for supporting our Shelties so they have a new
leash on life!
