I am housebroken and do well in a crate at night. I have just arrived in rescue and am settling into my foster home. I am doing well with the other dogs in my foster home.

Hi,

I'm Rusty.

Now, you know most shelties bark a lot and I am no exception. But let's face it. We shelties were bred to keep birds out of our owners property on the Shetland Isles while fish were drying on the shores and to herd and protect sheep, so we have to bark. We have a job to do and I do it very well. Nothing escapes my eagle eye and I stay alert all the time.

I am a very well housebroken boy and don't ruin flowers and shrubs when I go out to potty like a lot of boy dogs do. I also go very willingly into a crate to sleep at night and I love to play with any kind of toys. Fetching toys is my middle name.

I am very nice with my foster sisters and try to get them to play all the time. It only took me 24 hours to settle in to my new home and I love to sit in your lap until I hear something weird and then I jump down and herd it away.

Going to dog school was a bit scary at first, but it wasn't the people or dogs that scared me, it was the pop machine and the awning over the outside door blowing in the wind that kinda got me a bit scared. But I adjusted OK after a bit.

So my foster mom found out I can sit, down, heel a little and shake hands. I am very smart and caught on to the routine very quickly. Maybe it won't be so scary next time.

I bonded with my foster mom fast and I like my foster dad too. I have not had any kids or cats around here to be tested on so we will have to wait and see how I do with them.

So keep checking in to see how I am doing. By the way, I have to get my teeth cleaned and get those old dewclaws removed on April 7th so it may be a few days before I would be ready to go to my forever home.

Until then.......Rusty!

Hi all,

Rusty here to tell you I went to Franklin, IN yesterday to a doggy walk to raise money for a worthy cause.

The Indy Disc dog group was there putting on a show for the crowd and man was I excited.  I wanted to go out and pick up all the discs they missed and show them I could do that stuff too, but my foster mom wouldn't let me go.  Man was I frustrated.  I am just as good as those aussies and border collies.  Nobody wants to give me a chance to try out for any sports.

Maybe somebody out there could take me home with them and let me do what I do best.  I am a true working sheltie.

 Til next time............
