Smore here. I came to Sheltie Rescue from Animal Control. After a 2-week quarantine period, I came to my foster home a few days ago. I’ve settled in well. I like attention and spend time laying near my foster mother. I wait politely for food at mealtimes and take treats gently. I also like rawhides, but am too protective of them. She is working with me on getting over this. I can be petted while chewing one, just don’t try to touch my rawhide. She says that is the only issue she has noticed, when she used a stick to move my food dish around, I just keep my nose in the bowl and moved where it went. I am a sweet guy and am well-behaved overall. I am a typical sheltie, and like to bark at people going past the house (if I can see them). When she tells me to sit, I sit on my hindquarters and lift both front feet into the air. There are no children or cats in my foster home, so no one knows how I am with them.

March 16th Update:

I’ve settled in well in my foster home. It has been determined that I would do best in a single person home, due to bonding with my main person. I’ve been alright when visitors come over. I get along with other dogs, but get more excited when they are barking. I’m calmer when I’m by myself, so she thinks I would also do best as an only dog. I dislike the vacuum and try to attack it. My foster mother has put me in my crate when she vacuums and I am fine there. The other day, she was vacuuming the stairs and I was barking. She told me to go upstairs. I did go upstairs and was quiet while she finished. She said the next time she vacuumed the living room, she would send me upstairs and see what happens. I’m fine with thunder, though. I was quiet during a thunderstorm we had a few weeks ago, even though one of my foster sisters barked the entire time. My foster mother also says I’m the first dog she has met who waits for his feet to be wiped when I come in from outside. I am working on leash walking. I now have an Easy Walker harness and don’t pull walking on that. Now I need to learn to heel. I ignore cars when I’m out walking. I love to be brushed and make sure I’m at the front of the line when the brush comes out. I also like to play fetch. I can’t wait until the yard dries out enough that I can play fetch outside. I get very excited when my foster mother gets ready to leave the house because I get a treat. I eat the treat quickly and then bark as she leaves the house. If she gives me peanut butter in a bone, I’m too busy licking it to bark. I am crated when she leaves. I like to lay right next to wherever she is sitting. I sleep well at night and do not wake her up.
